Guerra & Farah Defend Client in Dismissed Federal Drug Charge Case

Guerra & Farah, PLLC and our team of Houston criminal defense attorneys is proud to be able to announce that we have secured a significant win for a client recently. Our client – who will remain unnamed for privacy reasons – was charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute 12 kilograms of methamphetamines. The charges are severe enough to be considered federal drug crimes and sentencing could have included a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, up to life in prison. Thanks to our efforts, led by Criminal Attorney Juan L. Guerra, Jr., the case was dismissed.

Our client’s case begins after he was asked by his friend to drive him to a store parking lot. At no point was our client told the actual purpose for the trip. He simply complied with the request because he wanted to be a good friend.

When he arrived at the requested destination, our client’s friend exited the vehicle to retrieve something from another empty vehicle there. This other vehicle just so happened to have been planted there by an undercover police officer, who had been posing as an absentee drug dealer. The passenger swapped $6,000 for a bag containing the methamphetamines and returned to our client’s vehicle. Before they were able to leave the parking lot, the police swooped in and arrested them both.

The fact that our client had no knowledge of the trip’s purpose became the focus of our investigation. Using our client’s good reputation and statements from the parties involved, we were able to show, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that our client had no intent to be part of a drug sale. He was only there as a driver not in the know.

Considering the odds against our client and the potential punishments had there been a conviction, we are more than pleased with this case result. Getting to the truth and protecting our clients’ rights are always our priorities here at Guerra & Farah, PLLC. To learn more about our law firm or case results, you can contact us at any time.
