Guerra & Farah, PLLC is proud to announce that
Attorney Juan Guerra has been included in the list of final appointees to the Criminal Justice
System Committee for Mayor Sylvester Turner's Transition. The appointment
was announced Friday, January 15, 2016, by Transition Co-Chair Bill Baldwin.
The purpose of the committee is to assist Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner
acclimate himself to the Houston criminal justice system and identify
any policies that need amending. Attorney Guerra and the rest of the esteemed
committee will meet on a weekly basis and provide Mayor Turner with policy
recommendations as needed.
Mayor Sylvester Turner formerly served the Texas House of Representatives
for more than 15 years. He won the election for Mayor of Houston against
Bill King last December and, on January 4, 2016, took office. He and his
administration are currently in a multi-faceted transition effort following
former Mayor Annise Parker's term.
This is not the first time Attorney Guerra's work in the criminal defense
arena has garnered him a public appointment. Last year, he was selected
as part of a
Special Investigative Committee following the death of Sandra Bland. 28-year-old Bland was found dead
in Waller County Sheriff's Department jail cell after a routine traffic
stop escalated to an arrest.
Attorney Guerra has also been selected for Texas Super Lawyers two consecutive
years (2014, 2015). He maintains membership in the National Association
of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Harris County Criminal Defense Lawyers
Association, and the American Bar Association, among others.
Our firm congratulates Attorney Guerra on yet another prestigious appointment
