Attorney Juan Guerra recently achieved the dismissal of
murder charges against a man who was accused of fatally shooting a security officer.
Our client is the father of one of the four children killed in a daycare fire that occurred in February 2011. The court found the daycare owner guilty of 3 counts of murder and she was sentenced to 60 years in the Texas Department of Corrections for her crime in November 2012.
In June of 2012, our client was depressed about the loss of his son. He decided to visit his ex-girlfriend, the boy's mother, at the bar where she worked as a bartender. When our client left the bar he got into a fight with another patron, during which he unknowingly dropped his cell phone.
After our client left a security officer was shot in front of the bar and later died from his injuries. Our client's cell phone was found at the scene of the shooting, and his ex-girlfriend identified the phone as belonging to him because of the photo of their decease son on the home screen. Another security officer identified our client as the shooter, and he was charged with murder.
Guerra & Farah's investigation into the case concluded that our client may have been present at the scene, but he could not have been the shooter. After 18 months of trial preparations, the murder case against our client was dismissed and he was cleared of involvement in the shooting.
